About Jim Trivelpiece

35 Years Working in Therapy in the Palouse Area

I have a background in DBT and cognitive behavioral therapy.  I enjoy working with people who want to create a life they want.  I work with adults, and prefer telehealth.

In therapy I support clients who want to attempt the new, either big or small.  One of my core beliefs in therapy is that change takes time.  Therapy does not need to occur quickly.  Instead, it may involve a process of longer term change.  We slowly incorporate new ideas, new goals and new practices and grow into that person we hoped.

Therapy involves the process change.  Change often causes distress.  This creates a dilemma- do  stick I with my familiar life and bear the pain?  Do I try a new path?  If I want to change, how can I manage the distress that may accompany the change process?

Another core belief is that life can bring pain.  Things occur in life that we wish were different.  Occasionally, life strikes a blow.  The body gets old, we develop illness.  We become less physically capable.  This is a fact that I cannot change.  Through accepting these core realities they become less of a struggle.  We may find that where there once was suffering, there may be acceptance.  This leaves room for joy to seep through.
